The "Hegel's Holiday" tea towel is an adaptation of the painting of the same name by the artist René Magritte. A surrealist painter, René Magritte loved to imagine serious games, enigmas, and contradictions.
"How can one paint a glass of water in a way that is neither indifferent nor fanciful, but, so to speak, with genius? I then thought that Hegel (another genius) would have been very sensitive to this object which has two opposing functions at the same time: to reject water (to protect itself from it) and to keep it (to contain it). He would have been delighted, I think, or amused (as one seeks to be when one is on holiday), and I called the painting Hegel's Holiday." René Magritte
